2018 Summer Recreational Program
NWLL’s summer recreation program begins Monday, June 18th. Open to boys and girls ages 7-12 the summer program supplements our traditional recreational offerings during the fall and spring seasons, but with distinct emphasis on skill development.
This includes intensive clinics on Monday and Wednesday evenings (except July 4th) centered on improving baseball fundamentals.
In addition, NWLL sponsors intramural games on Friday evenings to provide players the opportunity to utilize their skills in game situations. Here are the details:
•Where: Friendship Park | 45th and Van Ness Streets, NW
•When: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6:00 to 7:30 pm
•Starting: Monday June 18
•Ending: Friday, July 27
NWLL plans to sponsor 12u, 11u, and 10u all-star teams that will enter the DC District Little League championships. These tournaments ultimately feed into the national Little League tournaments. The DC 12u champion advances to the Mid-Atlantic regional in Bristol, Connecticut; the DC 11u and 10u champions advance to the Maryland state tournament. In addition, NWLL plans to sponsor a 9u team that will play in local tournaments.
NWLL’s goal for its summer tournament teams is to compete at a high level, consistent with the principles of good sportsmanship, fair play, and fun.
Player Selection: The players for tournament teams are selected from among top players who participate in our Spring season. Parents should be aware that parent conduct during the spring season may be taken into consideration in player selection.
• Tryouts for the 12u, 11u, and 10u teams will be held on the Friday, May 11 from 6 PM to 8:30 PM at Stoddert Elementary School. Teams will be selected and announced on June 1st.
• Tryouts for the 9u team are being scheduled.
Tryouts for the 12u team will be limited to players selected to represent their regular season Majors team in the all-star game, alternates, and any player who participated on the previous year's summer all star team. Tryouts for the 10u team will be limited to players selected to represent their regular season team in the AAA all-star game, alternates, and any player who participated on the previous year's summer all star team. League age 10 year olds playing in the Majors division are welcome to try out for the 10u team without making the Majors regular season all stars.
Selection to the 11u and 9u teams will be highly competitive; however, tryouts for those teams are open to all league-age 11 and 9 year-old players – regardless of regular season all-star status.
Tryout participants must register before May 9.
